You should enroll in Medicare Parts A & B three months before you turn 65. Coverage will start on the first day of your birth month.
The annual Medicare annual enrollment period is October 15-December 7. During this time, individuals already enrolled in Medicare can review their plans and make necessary changes or additions. The changes will go into affect January 1st of the next year.
Medicare is federal health insurance for anyone age 65 and older, and some people under 65 with certain disabilities or conditions.
- Part A provides inpatient/hospital coverage.
- Part B provides outpatient/medical coverage.
- Part C offers an alternate way to receive your Medicare benefits. (Medicare Advantage)
- Part D provides prescription drug coverage.
Also known as Part C, Medicare Advantage plans are approved plans by Medicare and offered by private companies. They are an alternative to original medicare and can cover part A, Part B, and usually part D. They may also cover additional benefits such as vision, hearing, dental, and health and wellness programs.
